Sky Airlines is based at Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport in Santiago, Chile. The airline is the second largest airline in the country behind flag carrier LATAM Airlines and is the first airline to operate under a low-cost model. The airline operates domestic and international routes, including flights to Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and Uruguay. The airline offers various services and facilities, and the baggage allowance is one of the services offered by Sky Airlines. What is the Sky Airlines Baggage Allowance Policy?

The baggage allowance of Sky Airlines varies depending on the fare type and before booking your flight ticket, even if you have already booked the flight. Then, you must check the baggage allowance you are allowed to carry on a Sky Airlines flight. Here are the various types of baggage, including handbags, carry-on bags, checked, excess baggage, and special baggage. You can go through the multiple guidelines regarding all of these, and these will be helpful for you:

Handbag

  • The handbag is included in all the fares, and it could be anything like a backpack, purse, or small suitcase; you can also bring a jacket or coat.
  • The dimensions must be under 25 x 35 x 45 cm, including the wheels, pockets, and handles. You must keep it under your seat unless you are in the front row or an emergency seat, which should go in the overload compartment. 
  • Only one handbag is allowed per passenger. If you want to take the second piece of luggage, you will have to pay for it, and it will be sent to the hold. 

Carry-on 

  • Passengers can also take carry-on bags with them, but they should be stowed inside the aircraft's overhead luggage compartments. Carry your valuables, such as jewelry, medicines, handicrafts, and documentation. 
  • The dimensions allowed for the same are 25 x 35 x 55cm, including wheels, pockets, and handles. The weight must not exceed 10 kg.

Checked Bag

  • Passengers can also carry checked baggage that weighs no more than 158 linear cm and 23 kg. If their luggage exceeds this, they will be charged a fee. 
  • For Chile and Peru, baggage is allowed up to 45 kg; for Argentina and Uruguay, baggage is IP up to 32 kg. If your luggage measures more than 158 linear cm, you cannot take it in the hold, and it will be sent as cargo.
  • If unconventional luggage, such as TV sets, boxes, etc., is involved, it will be checked provided that it is packed using a unique resistant material specially designed for transporting such items and complies with the established size and weight allowances. 

Excess Luggage 

  • An excess weight fee will be charged if your luggage weighs more than 23 kg. In Chile and Peru, passengers can carry up to 45 kg; in Argentina and Uruguay, passengers can carry up to 32 kg. 
  • If your luggage measures more than 158 linear cm, you cannot take it in the hold, and it will be sent as cargo. 
  • The maximum luggage weight allowance is 23 kg, and if the luggage exceeds this allowance at check-in at the airport, there will be a charge per additional kilo, which is applied per trip leg. 
  • The airline also checks the dimensions of your carry-on that should comply with their policy, which is (35cm x 25cm x 55cm. This includes the handle, pockets, and wheels) at the boarding gate.
  • If the dimension mentioned is exceeded, you will be charged a fee, and your luggage will be placed in the aircraft's hold. 

Special Baggage

  • Special baggage, such as sports luggage, can also be carried and must weigh less than 45 kilos on routes from or to Lima or within Chile. Up to 32 kg per bag can be carried on routes to or from Argentina and Montevideo. 
  • Some sports items, such as hang gliders, windsurfing equipment, canoes and oars, kayaks, poles, and javelins, are not accepted, and they must be carried as cargo. 
  • Passengers can carry up to 3 sports bags.
  • Passengers can also carry Fishing equipment, Surfboards, bodyboards, skates, skis, Bicycles, Hunting equipment, and Golf equipment under some guidelines given on the Sky airline's official website. 

What Are The Charges For The Excess Baggage At Sky Airlines?

The charges for excess weight of 1 to 5 kg are 15 USD, 6 to 10 kg cost 30 USD, 11 to 15 kg cost 38 USD, and if your excess luggage is more than 15 kg, you will be charged 40 USD.
